Are peacocks protected animals? The truth will be clear once you read this
Not all peacocks are protected animals. Currently, only the green peafowl is listed as a national first-class protected animal because its wild population is scarce, while others such as the blue peafowl and white peafowl are not protected animals. So is artificial breeding illegal? What procedures are required?
Is artificial peacock breeding illegal?
If you are breeding non-protected animals such as the blue peafowl and white peafowl, as long as you have completed the relevant procedures and obtained the relevant certificates, it is not illegal. But it is different if you privately breed the green peafowl, a national first-class protected animal, because relevant laws in our country stipulate that selling or purchasing nationally key protected wild animals or their products is prohibited. If, due to special circumstances such as scientific research, captive breeding, or exhibition, it is necessary to sell, purchase, or utilize national first-class protected wild animals or their products, it must be approved by the wildlife administrative department under the State Council or a unit authorized by it.
What procedures are required for breeding peacocks?
1. Wildlife domestication and breeding license, generally approved by the local county-level forestry department. With this certificate, you can legally hatch and breed blue peafowl;
2. Wildlife business license, also approved by the local county-level forestry department, allowing legal sales of peacocks and development of corresponding products;
3. Animal epidemic prevention qualification certificate, approved by the animal husbandry department under the local county-level agriculture bureau, mainly used for legal transportation after peacock sales;
4. You also need to apply for a business license, tax registration certificate, organization code certificate, etc.
Peacocks can be used as animals for special breeding projects, and they are also animals whose breeding is encouraged. However, friends who are considering breeding them should be reminded that they must not breed peacocks privately, and the relevant procedures and certificates must be completed in advance.
