The clam is a relatively common type of shellfish in daily life. Because of its high nutritional value and varied ways of preparation, it is deeply loved by people, and it is currently being farmed in most areas. So how do you raise clams?

1. Breeding preparation

Because clams are relatively demanding about their living conditions, you must be fully prepared before breeding, so as to ensure the success of clam farming. The preparation work mainly includes two aspects. The first is the choice of breeding site. Since clams cannot withstand long-distance transport, you should choose a place with convenient transportation. The second is that the water quality of the breeding site should be relatively clean and free of pollution, and dikes should be built around it for flood control. Before releasing the seedlings, the water in the pond should be drained and disinfected. The second preparation is selecting clam seedlings. Try to choose healthy seedlings with uniform color, moderate size and no damage.

2. Scientific seedling release

When releasing seedlings, note that different seedlings are stocked at different times. White seedlings are generally stocked in April and May, while seed seedlings are released around December or in the spring of the following year, and large seedlings need to be released before spawning, still in September. We can respectively adopt two methods: dry release and wet release. Dry release is suitable for white seedlings, and wet release is suitable for large seedlings. Do not mix them up, otherwise the losses will be relatively large.

3. Breeding management:

(1) Density management: When releasing seedlings, we should pay attention to the density of clams, because the density directly affects the growth rate and yield of clams. First, we need to determine it according to factors such as the size and strength of the clams, and second, we need to analyze it according to the tidal water conditions of the stocking area. In places with more tidal water, release as few as possible, and release large seedlings, while in flat clam beds you can release more.

(2) Feeding management: During the breeding process of clams, we should carry out group feeding according to how large the clams grow, so as to ensure the yield and quality of the clams. The second point is that we should strengthen temperature management in the breeding area to improve the survival rate of the clams. In ordinary feeding management, there is basically no need to worry too much; it is enough to regularly put feed into the breeding site to enhance the nutrients and plankton in the water and thereby promote the growth of the clams.

(3) Daily management: After the clam seedlings are released, we should strengthen inspection of the breeding area to check whether the clams have escaped, and at the same time prepare to prevent clam enemies. The next point is to repair the dikes for disaster prevention. Also, after clams reproduce they are relatively fragile, so we should strengthen supervision and transplantation of them to avoid unnecessary damage.

Overall, clams are very easy to raise. As long as you choose a good site and seedlings, and then do a good job in releasing seedlings, temperature, grouping and other work, the clams can grow.
