How to Raise Juvenile Yellow-Margined Box Turtles

1. Disinfection

The disinfection step is very important, to prevent some juveniles from carrying pathogenic bacteria or other risk factors. Usually the disinfection method is not very harsh; povidone-iodine solution is relatively commonly used.

2. Temperature

If the temperature is relatively low, some methods are still needed to raise it appropriately, such as an air heating room, etc., but attention must be paid to supervision, and the water temperature must be adjusted promptly if it is too high or too low.

3. Changing the Water

The water should not be changed too frequently either; normally maintaining it at once or twice a day is enough, with once in the morning and once in the evening being more suitable.

4. Density

For the transition of juvenile box turtles through their growth stages, appropriate separate-tray rearing should be carried out during the newborn stage; if the density of juvenile box turtles is too high, they will fight and compete among their own kind.
