How to Keep a Pet Scorpion? Care Methods and Precautions
Besides some cute animals that can be kept as pets, some animals with unusual appearances are also kept as pets by humans, and the scorpion is one of them. So, how should a pet scorpion be kept?
1. How to Keep a Pet Scorpion
Use a dedicated glass or plastic rearing tank 4-5 times the size of the scorpion, and it must be ventilated. Line the bottom with coconut soil, place wood blocks, hiding spots or reptile hiding caves in the tank, a small water dish that the scorpion cannot easily climb into, and a thermometer. Keep the temperature inside the rearing tank at around 26°C and the air humidity at around 60-70%, mist regularly, and pay attention to keeping it warm in winter. Mainly feed it mealworms, crickets, red cherry cockroaches, etc., once a week is enough. Different scorpion species need different bedding and temperature and humidity.
2. Scorpions Suitable as Pets
1. Asian forest scorpion: feeds on insects and small lizards, mildly venomous. Similar to the emperor scorpion, with a relatively slender and streamlined body, the surface of the pincers is relatively elongated and smoother, and the front end of the tail is black, with an adult body length of about 12-15 cm.
2. Emperor scorpion: one of the largest scorpions in the world. The body is round and thick, with a rough, uneven surface, the stinger at the end of the tail is red, and the body length is about 20 cm.
3. Black thick-tailed scorpion: a semi-desert scorpion, with an extremely thick tail covered in tactile hairs, and a body length between 7-12 cm.
There are also the three-colored hairy thick-tailed scorpion, the yellow fat-tailed scorpion, the North African black fat-tailed scorpion, the Tanzanian yellow crocodile-backed scorpion, etc., all of which are kept as pets by people.
Keeping scorpions is relatively simple, and not many decorations are needed; the main thing is to pay attention to maintaining the regulation of temperature and humidity.
