What feed is best for koi? An introduction to common feed types
Every time you visit a park, you will see some koi swimming around in the pond, which is very eye-catching, and some places even sell feed specifically for feeding the fish, so what feed is best for koi?
1. What feed is best for koi?
Koi do well on feed with a somewhat higher protein content, for example you can feed them crushed corn grits, steamed buns, artificially formulated nutritional feed, vegetable cakes, soybean cakes, breadcrumbs, crab meat, duckweed, aquatic plants, tubifex worms, and so on. If they are at the fry stage, you can feed them cooked egg yolk, soft worms, soybean milk, and so on. When feeding, try to feed at fixed times and fixed spots, to avoid causing stress reactions in the fish.
2. When is it good to feed koi?
1. When the water temperature in your fish tank is 10-13 degrees, it is recommended to feed only once every 4-5 days per week; if you see that your beloved koi has a very good appetite, you can choose to feed a small amount of high-carbohydrate, low-protein, intestine-lubricating and bowel-moving foods, such as pumpkin seeds, oatmeal, or bread, rice foods, and the like.
2. When the water temperature for raising your koi is 13-15 degrees Celsius, it is recommended that you feed once every 2 to 3 days per week, and you can choose to feed vegetables, as well as low-protein wheat germ feed. As the temperature rises, feeding can be increased.
3. When the water temperature for raising koi is 15-16 degrees Celsius, you can feed low-protein (25%) feed once a day, and it can be mixed with high-carbohydrate vegetables and fruits for feeding. At 16-19 degrees Celsius, feed once a day, gradually increasing protein pellet feed (35%) and the amount of feed, adding a diet of different vegetables and fruits. When the water temperature is 19-21 degrees Celsius, feed 35% protein feed twice a day, adding various fruits and vegetables.
4. When the water temperature for raising your koi reaches 22-26 degrees Celsius, feed high-protein feed (35%-40%) 3 to 4 times a day, adding vegetables, fruits and shrimp (if you want to use color-enhancing feed, you can add it at this time), and at this time, you can let your koi gain weight.
5. If the water temperature is 27-30 degrees Celsius, the feeding amount should be reduced, and vegetables and fruits should be increased (at this time aeration must be increased, which is very important). When the water temperature exceeds 30 degrees Celsius, feed vegetables and fruits. When it exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, stop feeding and just increase aeration.
Overall, there are many feeds that koi can eat, but when feeding, try to feed some high-protein foods, as only this can let the fish grow healthily.
