How to Fish for Redtail Fish? Detailed Fishing Techniques
Redtail fish is a common kind of freshwater fish, generally living in the middle and upper layers of the water, very easy to fish for, which is why many anglers like to fish for this kind of fish, so how do you fish for redtail fish?
1. How to fish for redtail fish?
Method one: Hand rod suspended-lead float fishing
When using this fishing method, the hand rod should be a hard-action long rod, over 6.3 m. This is because redtail fish generally stay fairly far from the shore, and if the rod is too short, it is very hard to catch redtail fish. Use a size 3 line as the main line; the line should be a bit longer than the rod, but not too long either, otherwise it will not be good for casting. Use 1.5 or 2.0 line as the leader to avoid line breakage, use a slightly larger hook, around a size 7 hook; single hook or double hook are both fine; the float should be eye-catching and have greater buoyancy; slightly heavier lead helps with casting; the best fishing depth is about 1 m!
Method two: Sea rod float fishing
For a sea rod, the length of the rod is not so important; likewise use a 3.0 main line, a hook around size 7, use a string hook, a 30 g lead sinker is suitable, and choose a large float that can support the lead sinker. When conditions allow, the farther you cast, the better; after it enters the water, the best fishing depth is 1.5 m. If a redtail takes the bait, the float will generally be pulled directly into the water; if you cannot see the float clearly, you can judge whether a fish is taking the bait by watching the rod tip.
Method three: Sea rod walking fishing
This fishing method is most suitable for operating on a bridge; the line assembly is the same as for float fishing, and after casting you need to keep walking around to make the bait move, thereby luring redtail fish to take the bait. After a redtail is hooked, first judge the size of the fish by its strength; if it is a small fish, you can directly reel it in and pull it ashore, but if it is a big fish, do not rush; after fully playing the fish, slowly guide it toward the bridge bank, then use a landing net to scoop the fish up.
2. What bait to use for fishing redtail fish?
When fishing for redtail fish, you can choose live shrimp, live fish (small white baits and wheat ears are both fine) and earthworms; the fishy smell naturally given off by these live baits has a very strong attraction for redtail fish.
Overall, redtail fish are still quite easy to catch, but it depends specifically on how you fish; if you are fishing from a bridge, you can use sea rod walking fishing, and if you are fishing in water 1.5 m deep, you can choose sea rod float fishing.
