How to Change Water for Goldfish Fry? Detailed Guide to the Correct Methods and Steps
Goldfish are a common type of ornamental fish, prized for their unusual forms and brilliant colors. So, how do you change the water for goldfish fry? What are their rearing methods?
1. How to change the water for goldfish fry?
First, prepare clean water, and make sure the conditions of the new water and the old water are similar. Use a basin to scoop up the goldfish fry together with the water, keeping the movements light and slow. Then draw out the old water, next clear away the sediment at the bottom of the pond, and then slowly pour the new water into the fish tank. Finally, pour the goldfish fry in the basin, together with the basin and the water, back in, and the water change is complete. After that, do this once every half month.
2. Rearing methods for goldfish fry
1. Fry management from three to ten days
First feeding: within 2-3 days after the fry hatch, there is no need to feed them. After 3 days, the nutrients in the yolk sac inside the fry's body are gone, and at this point feed must be added. Goldfish fry are very small; if you feed them large live foods such as water fleas, they simply cannot eat them, so the feed during this period is the most important, and this is where our bait ponds come in handy.
After harvesting, the catch must first be sorted by sieving. The smallest fry are sieved through a 200-mesh screen; the feed filtered through a 200-mesh screen is also called infusoria water, and infusoria water is the best food for newly hatched ornamental fish fry. The main components of infusoria water are paramecia and rotifers. Paramecia are very small, with a body length of only 0.15-0.3 mm, which makes them just right as feed for newly hatched fry. Paramecia are rich in protein and are also live food, so the small fish that eat them can grow strong and healthy.
After filtering the infusoria water, dilute it with water before feeding. The amount fed each time must not be too much, to prevent polluting the water quality. Feed at around ten o'clock every morning.
2. Fry management from ten to thirty days
Goldfish fry grow very quickly; at around ten-odd days, they can grow to about 1 cm. At this point, the plankton they can swallow can be a bit larger, and you can use water fleas filtered through a 100-mesh screen.
After ten-odd days, the fry are no longer so delicate, and the water temperature can gradually be lowered to 15°C. However, because the fry are small, it is not advisable to change the water at this stage; generally, the method used is to add water to the nursery pond.
3. Fry management after thirty days
After thirty-odd days, the fry's bodies have grown larger, and the dorsal and caudal fins have also developed fully. At this stage, the fry's resistance has clearly increased; they can not only eat water fleas filtered through an 80-mesh screen, but can even be given artificial compound feed. If you do not have the production equipment for compound feed, you can also use carp compound feed as a substitute. Feed once each in the morning and afternoon, and it is best if they finish eating within 20 minutes.
When changing the water for goldfish fry, be sure to keep it light, gentle and slow. Once they are a little bigger, they become easy to raise. Keeping some goldfish at home not only has high ornamental value, but also symbolizes abundance and surplus year after year. Friends who are interested can give it a try.
