What feed do pigs eat? Common feed types and mixing methods
It is better to feed pigs compound feed. Compound feed is a product made by scientifically mixing a variety of different feeds in a certain proportion according to the nutritional needs of pigs. The compound feed used differs for pigs with different production purposes and different physiological states.
Compound feed has the following advantages:
① Feed formulated according to different production purposes and corresponding feeding standards has comprehensive nutrition, a high feed conversion rate, lower production costs, and high economic benefits
② Compound feed uses many types of feed, and the nutrients complement each other, which can make full use of existing feed resources, reduce feeding costs, and expand feed sources
③ According to different production purposes, various needed additives can be used to prevent nutritional deficiencies and imbalances, control the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, reduce disease, promote growth, improve feed utilization, improve carcass quality, and increase productivity.
Mixed feed, on the other hand, is a feed product made by simply mixing several feeds together. It does not take into account the nutritional needs of pigs, and the nutrients in the feed cannot be supplied in a balanced way, resulting in nutritional deficiencies or waste. According to experiments, when comparing pigs fed compound feed with pigs fed a single feed or simply mixed feed, the former has a feed-to-meat ratio of about 3:1, while the latter is often 4.0-4.5:1, or even higher.
