How Big Can a Pig-Nosed Turtle Grow in a Year? A Detailed Guide to Its Growth Rate
The pig-nosed turtle is a kind of turtle and also a fairly popular pet, so let's find out how big a pig-nosed turtle can grow in 1 year?
If it is a hatchling and is fed a varied diet, it can grow 3 or 4 times larger in a year. Growing to 6 cm in one year is no problem, and in two years it should reach about 10 cm, and in about four years it can reach 15.
The pig-nosed turtle is one of the most peculiarly shaped freshwater turtles. Its snout is long and fleshy, resembling a pig's snout, which is why it earned the name “pig-nosed turtle”. There is a gray stripe behind the eyes. To adapt to aquatic life, its limbs have specialized into flippers and cannot be retracted into the shell. Near the midpoint of each forelimb there are two distinct clawed nails, which is also one of its characteristics. The tail is rather short, and its back is covered with a row of crescent-shaped scales that gradually decrease in size from the base of the tail to the tip. On both sides beneath the tail there are prominent skin folds that extend from the base of the thigh all the way to the hind limbs. Adult male turtles have a relatively long and large tail, and the position of the cloacal opening is also set farther back; female turtles, however, have a shorter and smaller tail.
