How Big Can a Pig-Nosed Turtle Grow? A Detailed Look at Adult Body Length and Weight
The pig-nosed turtle is a type of turtle and also a relatively popular pet, so let's find out how big a pig-nosed turtle can grow?
The carapace length of an adult pig-nosed turtle generally reaches 46-51cm, with a body weight generally between 18-22Kg. The largest pig-nosed turtle discovered so far reached a carapace length of 56.3cm and a body weight of 22.5Kg.
Its carapace is relatively round, dark gray, olive gray, or brownish gray, with a row of white spots near the edge. The edge is slightly serrated. Because the outer skeletal structure is well developed and complete, it does not have a soft shell margin like that of softshell turtles. It also has no scutes, replaced instead by continuous and slightly wrinkled skin. There is a row of spiky ridges down the center of the carapace. The plastron on the underside of the body is light in color, being white, creamy white, or pale yellow, and roughly cross-shaped. The head is medium in size and cannot be retracted into the shell.
