The question of the difference between chub mackerel and Spanish mackerel is one that many friends ask about, because in cooking these two kinds of fish often cause disagreement. So where exactly does the difference between them lie? Let's take a look together!

The difference between chub mackerel and Spanish mackerel

1. Different shape

The chub mackerel has a stout, slightly flattened body, somewhat resembling the shape of a hammer. It is generally 20-40 cm long and weighs about 150-400 grams. The Spanish mackerel has a long, laterally compressed body in a spindle shape; it is generally 25-50 cm long and weighs 300-1000 grams, and the largest individuals can reach 1 m in length and weigh more than 4.5 kg.

2. Different distribution range

The chub mackerel is distributed in the western Pacific Ocean, and its annual fishing seasons are generally the spring run from April to July and the autumn run from September to December. The Spanish mackerel is distributed in the western North Pacific Ocean; each year April to June is the spring run, July to October is the autumn run, and May to June is the peak season.

3. Different value

The chub mackerel is one of China's important mid-upper-layer commercial fish, is fairly widely distributed, and also has high yields; besides its food value it also has economic value. The Spanish mackerel has a slightly narrower distribution, and its economic value is also slightly lower than that of the chub mackerel.

Actually, this kind of comparison is just to give everyone a more intuitive understanding of the two varieties. Both are fish with high nutritional value, so just choose according to your own preference.
