Ginseng is a precious traditional Chinese medicine. Wild ginseng is relatively scarce, but it can be cultivated artificially. Not only that, it can also be grown in flower pots, so it is both ornamental and edible. So,what is the method for growing ginseng in pots?

1. Choosing a pot

It is better to choose a clay pot with good air permeability. The flower pot should be somewhat larger. A rectangular flower pot 40 cm long, 25 cm wide, and 20 cm high, or a round flower pot with a diameter of 25 cm, is better.

2. Potting soil

Ginseng is suitable for growing in sandy loam and humus loam that are rich in organic matter, highly permeable, and well drained. You can directly dig up humus soil from hillsides, or mix 6 parts leaf mold, 2 parts garden soil, and 2 parts river sand.

3. Planting

It can be planted in mid-to-late April in spring and mid-to-late October in autumn. Build the potting soil into a slope at a 60-degree angle on one side of the pot, support the ginseng seedling on the slope with the bud pointing upward, and keep the rootlets straight. Sprinkle a thin layer of soil around the entire seedling body and above and below it, then cover with soil up to the shoulder of the ginseng seedling, and cover all the soil from above the shoulder up to the bud.

4. Care

After the ginseng seedlings are planted, place them in a relatively cool place with scattered light for care. In spring and autumn, the sunlight is not very strong, so they can be placed on a balcony or indoors in a place with scattered light. In summer, the sunlight is too strong, so pay attention to shading in time to avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf scorch.

5. Watering

When watering for the first time, pour the water along the edge of the flower pot and avoid the buds. Do not use tap water, because tap water contains bleaching powder. The amount of water should be appropriate, and there should be no standing water in the pot, so as to avoid root rot and drying out. In winter, ginseng enters a dormant period, so watering should be reduced, and it is enough to keep the soil from becoming dry.
