How do you keep crabs alive? How many days can they generally be kept well?
Buying crabs yourself to cook and eat is much cheaper, especially when crabs are cheap, buy a few more. Sometimes when you buy too many, you plan to keep them for a few days before eating. So, how do you keep crabs for a few days?
1. Container
You can keep crabs in a relatively deep basin. If there are too many crabs and one basin cannot hold them, you can keep them separately. Do not let the crabs inside be too crowded, and do not let them pile up layer upon layer. If you are worried that the crabs may escape, you can cover the basin with a layer of gauze.
2. Adding water
You can use tap water from home. First leave the water for a few hours to soften it, then pour it into the basin. If they are river crabs, keeping them in clean water is enough; if they are sea crabs, put some salt in the water. The depth of the water should not submerge the crabs, but it should cover their shells, and when they stand up their heads should be able to stick out, otherwise it is difficult for them to breathe.
3. Placement
Put the basin in a cool, ventilated place indoors, not in sunlight, do not put a lid on it, and change the water once a day with clean water. Keeping crabs temporarily this way is simple and practical, and when the temperature is not too high they can even be kept for more than 5 days, but it does not fatten them up.
4. Feeding
If you plan to eat them after keeping them for one or two days, there is no need to feed them; if you want to keep them longer and do not want the crabs to become thin, you can feed the crabs some food, such as eggs, rice, black sesame seeds, small dried shrimp, small fish, and so on.
