Sheep Feed Formulations and Scientific Feeding Pairing Methods
We all know that sheep have relatively high economic value, which is why raising sheep has become one of the more popular agricultural farming projects. So, what is the sheep feed formulation?
1. What is the sheep feed formulation?
The formulation for pen-raised sheep is: cornmeal 21.5%, grass meal 21.5%, soybean cake 21.5%, corn kernels 17%, peanut cake 10.3%, wheat bran 6.9%, salt 0.7%, urea 0.3%, additives 0.3%, with roughage provided free-choice in unlimited amounts; the concentrate feed formulation for grazing sheep is: corn 30%, bran 25%, rapeseed cake 20%, barley 20%, minerals 3%, salt 2%.
2. Points to Note When Raising Sheep
1. Feed Selection
Compared with roughage such as straw and seedlings, feed is after all relatively expensive. Providing nutritional supplementation and periodically increasing concentrate supplements can minimize costs as much as possible while also meeting the growth needs of the sheep, allowing them to be marketed earlier and locking in profits and recovering capital.
2. Rational Selection of Breeding Stock
What matters with breeding sheep is not quantity but quality. Promptly cull, eliminate, or send to market inferior breeding rams so that the quality of the flock can be improved. When necessary, artificial insemination techniques can be learned, which can greatly increase the utilization rate of breeding rams while reducing the number of animals kept.
3. Rational Fattening
A period of 2 to 3 months is suitable, and at the same time the fattening time should be flexibly adjusted according to the body condition of the fattening sheep. During the green grass season, in places with grassy slopes, adult sheep in poor body condition can first be grazed to regain condition using green grass, and then fattened, which can save feed and reduce costs.
4. Self-Breeding and Self-Raising
If there are breeding rams and ewes of good breed quality, they can be bred and raised on your own. At the same time, make full use of hybrid vigor. Common crossbreeding models include two-way crossbreeding, three-way crossbreeding, backcrossing, and terminal crossbreeding. Hybrid offspring can absorb the advantages of both the sire and the dam, and the method is simple and easy to carry out.
5. Improve Technical Skills
It is better to rely on yourself than on others. Every day, watch more, learn more, and seek advice more. Learn about common problems, such as those concerning lamb delivery, basic identification of sheep diseases, and inbreeding. These are all directly related to actual profitability.
In the process of raising sheep, feed selection and formulation are a particularly important part. When the feed is properly formulated, the sheep will also grow faster.
