With the continuous expansion of farming scale in recent years, whiteleg shrimp farming has become a boom; its short growth cycle and good economic returns have long been a development trend favored by farmers. How much is whiteleg shrimp per jin? What are the farming secrets?

1. How much is whiteleg shrimp per jin?

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a shrimp with fairly high nutritional value and is also a common delicacy on our dining tables. The current market price of whiteleg shrimp is generally 50-60 yuan per jin. Because farming conditions vary from place to place, market prices also differ.

However, with the price decline of whiteleg shrimp, the main species of farmed shrimp, in 2019, shrimp farmers' enthusiasm for farming it has decreased somewhat.

For shrimp farmers, the prospect of “continued low market prices” in 2019 remains a huge challenge; they are still very conservative and have not yet decided on their 2019 crop plans.

2. What are the secrets of whiteleg shrimp farming?

1. High-quality fry

In the market, when shrimp are not farmed well, many farmers blame poor fry first thing, which shows how important fry are to successful farming. So here we also suggest choosing high-quality fry for farming.

2. Strengthening and preserving fry

Once high-quality fry are chosen and a reasonable stocking density is set, the next step is to keep the fry alive well. Only with fry is there meaning in continuing to farm, only with fry can the water body be well managed in the middle and later stages, and only with fry can there be yield.

3. Scientific feeding

Feed can be selected from complete, palatable compound feed as well as small trash fish, snail and clam meat, etc. Whiteleg shrimp have relatively high requirements for feed protein; you must ensure the shrimp eat enough and eat well, while also taking into account the farming environment and reducing feed costs. Therefore, feed should be brand-name, high-quality pelleted feed. In the early stage of whiteleg shrimp farming, use No. 0 crushed pellets; in the middle stage, No. 1 feed; in the later stage, No. 2 and No. 3 feed, snail and clam meat, etc. It is best to use extruded sinking pelleted shrimp feed.

The feeding amount should be determined by comprehensive factors such as shrimp size, survival rate, water quality, weather, and feed quality. Production practice experience is very important. Feeding trays should be set up in the pond, and regular checks and observations should be made (check about once every 10 days), with timely adjustments. When feeding, adhere to the “four fixed” principles. In the middle stage of farming, when the shrimp grow to 3-10cm in body length, the daily feeding amount is referenced at 6%-8% of the shrimp's wet weight. In the later stage of farming, when the shrimp are over 10cm in body length, the daily feeding amount is 4%-5% of the shrimp's wet weight. In the early stage of farming, feed twice a day, at 7:00 and 19:00; in the middle and later stages of farming, feed 3 times, at 7:00, 19:00 and 23:00, with the evening feeding accounting for 50% of the daily feeding amount. During the day, feed in the deep water along the pond bank; in the evening, feed in the shallow water. The principle is to have the feed finished within 2 hours after feeding.

4. Pond patrols

Patrol the pond three times a day, in the early morning, evening and midnight, to observe changes in water color and whether the shrimp show signs of surfacing for air. Use two methods, observation with the aid of light and inspection with a dip net, to check the shrimp's activity and growth. If abnormalities appear, adjust the feeding amount; if surfacing is found, turn on the aerator.
