How to Keep a Java Sparrow? Detailed Guide to Care and Precautions
The Java sparrow is petite in size, with white patches on its cheeks and brightly colored eye rings and beak. It has a lively personality and is a relatively well-known cage bird. How do you keep a Java sparrow properly?
How to keep a Java sparrow
1. Java sparrows are generally kept in cages, which can be made of iron or bamboo. For keeping one bird, the cage body size is 60×40×50 cm. If a nest is prepared, the size is about 22×15×15 cm, with a partition placed in the middle and an entrance hole and ventilation holes cut out.
2. Inside the cage, prepare 1 perch, 1 water bath container, and 1 food dish and 1 water dish each.
3. Mainly feed millet, foxtail millet and other seeds with shells. Fruits and vegetables should also be fed regularly in appropriate amounts to keep its feathers glossy and bright. Feeding too much can easily cause diarrhea. To prevent diseases such as soft bone disease, feed cuttlebone once every 2 to 3 days to supplement vitamin D and calcium.
4. Keep the cage clean. When feeding every day, clear away food residue. At the same time, for easier cleaning, newspaper or sand can be placed at the bottom of the cage. Replace it every 3 days. The sand must be clean; wash it and let it dry before use.
5. In summer, pay attention to sun protection and ventilation; in winter, keep the temperature at around 20°C.
6. Java sparrows like to bathe. Change their clean fresh water every day, and in winter take care not to let them catch a cold.
Keeping Java sparrows is relatively simple. Everyone likes to keep them in pairs at home. Friends who are interested can keep two.
