The grosbeak has a charmingly naive appearance and is a common household ornamental bird. Many families keep grosbeaks as pets. So how do you raise a grosbeak? Please see the details below.

1. Birdcage

The grosbeak has no special requirements for its cage, as long as it does not affect jumping. If used for training, it can be tethered with a neck chain and placed on a bird stand. The bird stand generally used is made of [material], about 40-50 cm long and 1.5 cm in diameter, with a section in the middle wrapped in cotton thread to make it easier for the bird to perch. Newly bought birds are rather irritable in temperament; therefore, when putting them on the stand, be sure to pay attention to the length of the neck chain to avoid death from the neck being entangled.

2. Feeding the Grosbeak

The grosbeak mainly feeds on plant fruits and seeds, and also eats insects. The insects it eats mainly include weevils, pear tiger beetles, leaf beetles, ground beetles, sawflies, hawthorn butterflies, and other insects and insect larvae of the orders Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, and so on. Usually, a small amount of green vegetables and apples can also be fed.

Beginners raising grosbeaks should note that artificial feed is mainly composed of soybean powder, corn powder, and cooked eggs; next is fish meal and silkworm pupa powder; then perilla seeds, fruits, green vegetables, and so on. During the estrus period and molting period, the supply of egg millet must be guaranteed; during the molting period, feed rich in calcium must be supplemented, and the amount of colorful feed (such as bright red chili peppers, carrots, etc.) should be increased.

3. Water Bath

The bird should be provided with a water bath, once daily in spring and summer; in autumn and winter, the number of water baths can be reduced, and after the water bath, care should be taken to prevent colds, and it must not be hung in a place with draft. If the bird's mood cannot be stabilized and it keeps fluttering up and down, its feathers can be wet with water to control its activity; sunflower seeds can also be fed.

The grosbeak is very suitable for household breeding. Its call is like a whistle, loud and pleasant. If well trained, it will also perform various acrobatics and win cheers from the whole room.
