How to Grow Lotus-leaf Bamboo? Detailed Care Methods and Precautions
Lotus-leaf bamboo is a common household potted plant that not only purifies the air but also has high ornamental value. So, how do you grow lotus-leaf bamboo?
1. How to grow lotus-leaf bamboo
1. Soil
Lotus-leaf bamboo likes to grow in a shady, humid, high-temperature environment; it is tolerant of waterlogging and strong fertility, and highly cold-resistant. It is suitable for growing in semi-muddy sand, alluvial clay and well-drained sandy soil.
2. Temperature
The suitable growing temperature is 20-28°C, and it can tolerate low temperatures of 2-3°C, but freeze protection measures should be taken in winter. Generally, the hot and humid seasons of summer and autumn are its best growth stage, which is favorable for the growth and development of lotus-leaf bamboo.
3. Light
Lotus-leaf bamboo does not have a high demand for light and is suitable for growing under bright, diffused light. Excessive light and exposure to the sun can both cause the leaves to turn yellow, lose their green color, and grow slowly. Therefore, when planting in the field, a shade shed 1.7-1.8 m high needs to be built, generally with a shading rate of 75% as appropriate, to create an environment of diffused light and half shade and half sun.
Especially from April to September, try to avoid sun exposure or soil that is too dry, otherwise it is easy to cause rough leaf surfaces, drying out, weak growth, and a lack of luster on the leaves, which reduces its ornamental value.
4. Watering
During the growth period, keep the soil moist. You can often spray or water the leaf surface, which is favorable for the growth of lotus-leaf bamboo. When heavy rain occurs, drain the standing water in the field in time to prevent lotus-leaf bamboo from lodging.
5. Freeze protection
In winter, be careful to take freeze protection measures. Generally, when the temperature is below 10°C, the leaves will begin to turn yellow and wither. During this period, the soil should be kept semi-moist, and watering and fertilizing can be appropriately reduced according to the soil conditions.
2. Precautions for growing lotus-leaf bamboo
1. Water quality conditions
After lotus-leaf bamboo has taken root, do not change the water. If there is a water shortage, add water in time. Well water is best; if conditions do not allow it, tap water can also be used, but it needs to be left to stand for about 2 days before adding. During this period, do not use water that contains oil or has been polluted, as it can easily cause root rot.
2. Fertilizing conditions
Do not add chemical fertilizer when replenishing water. Chemical fertilizer will make lotus-leaf bamboo grow leggy and cause the leaves to turn yellow. Therefore, when adding water, you can add a few drops of nutrient solution, which is favorable for its growth and development.
3. Pruning conditions
Control the degree of thinness and density well. If it grows too densely, it can easily cause the leaves to die, and if it is too sparse, it will affect its ornamental appeal.
Lotus-leaf bamboo has relatively strict requirements for water, fertilizer, temperature, light and so on, so everyone needs to pay extra attention when growing it.
