How to Grow the Lotus Succulent? Detailed Care Methods and Precautions
The lotus succulent's appearance blooms just like a lotus rosette, presenting a dignified and elegant posture and giving people a fresh and refined feeling. It is also not difficult to grow, making it very suitable for beginners. So,how do you grow the lotus succulent?
1. Potting soil
The lotus succulent likes soft, well-draining sandy soil; mix garden soil, sandy soil or leaf mold and blend in some bone meal. After choosing the potting soil, water it moderately and insert the succulent's roots.
2. Temperature
The most suitable temperature for the lotus succulent is between 20-30°C. It is afraid of excessively high temperatures, which can smother the plant. It can tolerate low temperatures above 0°C for a short time, and during overwintering the temperature must not be lower than 5°C.
3. Light
Its growth requires sufficient light, otherwise the plant will become loose and the leaves will become thin and small, seriously affecting its appearance. With sufficient light, the plant and leaves will be thick and plump, and the leaf tips will be coffee-colored or purplish-red. The light must be even.
4. Watering
It likes a slightly moist soil environment, so water it promptly to keep its soil in a slightly moist state at all times. Never leave it without water for a long time, otherwise it may become dehydrated and grow poorly.
5. Fertilizing
Spring is its best growing season; apply a fertilizer combining nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium once every half month, and no additional fertilizing is needed in other seasons.
6. Diseases
The main problems are leaf spot and rust, which can be treated by spraying Bordeaux mixture (1:1:100) once every half month. Among pests, there is damage from scale insects, which can be killed by spraying with 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution.
Although the lotus succulent is easy to grow, if you want to grow a large and beautiful form, it needs everyone's careful attention.
