The Huangshan squirrel is small and cute, with a large and fluffy tail, lively and active, and now more and more people are willing to keep it as a pet. How to raise a Huangshan squirrel better?

1. They are rodents and will gnaw on the cage, so a wooden cage cannot be used; here we generally use an iron cage. The cage space should be as large as possible. The inside of the cage should be kept dry, and some necessary feeding tools should be provided.

2. The ambient temperature for the Huangshan squirrel should be kept at around 15-30°C, not too dry or too humid, with relative humidity kept at 45%. In summer, pay attention to cooling down during high temperatures; the cage should be ventilated and shaded.

3. Do not give it overly strong light, otherwise it easily makes the fur messy and lose its gloss.

4. When the baby squirrel has not yet opened its eyes, mainly feed it milk; later, as it grows up, change to nuts such as pine nuts, walnuts, and hazelnuts, and fruits such as apples and pears. Nuts not only let it gnaw and wear down its teeth, but also provide it with sufficient nutrition, and fruit can also supplement necessary components for it. Do not feed them meat, insects, or beverages.

5. Ensure hygiene inside the cage, clean frequently, help clean up feces, regularly disinfect feeding utensils, put in a sand bath box to let it take sand baths, and a small wooden stick can also be placed in the cage for it to gnaw on.

6. After a female squirrel becomes pregnant, she should be separated into a different cage from the male, and the female should be provided with plenty of food and water.

7. Try to start raising them from a baby squirrel, as they are easier to tame; when interacting with the squirrel, be careful not to get scratched.

The Huangshan squirrel is cute and nimble, and the raising method is also relatively simple. Try to raise it from a young age, and consider your own circumstances before keeping these small animals, and be a responsible owner.
