How to Raise Young Silkworms? A Detailed Guide to Rearing Methods and Precautions
The silkworm is a common insect in the southwestern region. In its later stage it spins a cocoon and produces silk, which is used to make various silk quilts and so on, so its breeding value is very high. If you want to raise silkworms well, you must raise the young silkworms well. So how do you raise young silkworms?
1. Prepare a cardboard box
For newly hatched young silkworms, you can place them on a clean cardboard box, or line the box with a layer of smooth paper, so the silkworms do not crawl into the gaps of the box.
2. Feeding
After the young silkworms hatch, they begin to eat half an hour later. At this time you should pick some very tender mulberry leaves, then cut them into small pieces and place them on the silkworms, letting them forage freely. Before feeding mulberry leaves, there should be no stains or water on the leaves; especially after rain, be sure to wipe the water off them to avoid causing disease. Generally, feed once each in the morning, midday and evening, in an appropriate amount.
3. Clear away the old mulberry leaves
Before each feeding of mulberry leaves, promptly replace the leaves beneath the silkworms to keep the growing environment clean.
4. The temperature must be suitable
The suitable temperature for young silkworms is 25-28 degrees. Generally, when the temperature is high, ventilate promptly, and when the temperature is low, raise it promptly.
Overall, young silkworms are very easy to raise. As long as you control the temperature well and feed them some clean, fresh, tender mulberry leaves, that is enough.
