The silkworm is an insect of the order Lepidoptera and the main source of raw material for silk, occupying an important place in human economic life and cultural history. Nowadays more and more people are raising silkworms, so do you know how to raise silkworm moths?

1. How to raise silkworm moths?

Silkworm moths do not need to be fed. They do not eat; their nutrition comes from the larval stage, and after growing up their mouthparts degenerate. Silkworm moths leave behind offspring and soon afterward die.

2. Why do silkworms molt?

A silkworm goes through several stages in its life, and each time it goes through a process it molts once. During the molting period, they do not eat anything and molt safely in the form of sleep. After one molt they become second-instar larvae; each molt counts as adding one year of age. The larvae molt four times in total to become fifth-instar larvae, then eat mulberry leaves for 8 days to become mature silkworms and begin spinning silk and forming cocoons.

At present, China's cocoon and silk output and export volume both account for more than 70% of the world total, and it has become a major cocoon and silk country capable of leading the trend of world cocoon silk prices.
