The golden loach is golden yellow all over and very attractive. In some regions it is regarded as a symbol of wealth and good fortune, favored by consumers, and commands a high price. How exactly should this golden loach be raised?

How to Raise Golden Loach

1. Choose a suitable pond. The selected pond should be 50-100 sq m in size and 50 cm deep. It must have good drainage and water storage capacity, an adequate water source, and clean, fresh water quality. After choosing the pond, check the pond walls and firmly tamp any leaking spots. The pond bottom needs 10 cm of silt. Surround the entire breeding site with asbestos netting or wire fencing to give the golden loach a line of defense.

2. After choosing the pond, process the pond. First deep-plow the silt at the bottom of the pond, then expose it to the sun for about one month, and then disinfect the pond with quicklime. After doing this, bury fermented organic fertilizer and biological fertilizer into the pond. This is done to create a good living environment for the golden loach.

3. There should not be too many golden loaches in the pond; the number put in should be appropriate. Raising too many loaches together will cause them to get sick, and the disease spreads very quickly, causing massive deaths. If the loach fry put in are about 3 cm, then 0.1-0.2 kg of loach can be put in per square meter. In the later breeding process, as the golden loach grows better and better, the breeding density should also be reduced in time. Doing this can reduce injuries among the loaches and at the same time can increase output to a certain extent.

4. Keep the breeding water temperature for golden loach at 15-30°C. If the temperature is too high, add water to cool it down; below 15°C the loach is prone to cold injury. To keep the water quality clear, shade measures should also be taken routinely; you can plant some duckweed or water hyacinth in the water.

5. The golden loach is an omnivorous animal and can eat anything. During the breeding process, the small loaches at the fry stage should be fed as much algae or cladocerans such as bloodworms as possible. After the golden loach grows up, it can be fed artificial feed, algae, fish meal, animal offal, and miscellaneous grains. The bait can be changed appropriately so that its nutrition keeps up.

Besides having ornamental value, the golden loach can also be eaten. The golden loach after domestication now has better disease resistance.
