How to Raise Swallows? Detailed Guide to Breeding Methods and Tips
The swallow, commonly known as the barn swallow, is the collective name for 74 species of birds in the passerine family Hirundinidae, and is a well-known beneficial bird. So how do you raise swallows?
1. How to Raise Swallows
1. First, you need to make an artificial nest for the baby swallow to live in. Generally speaking, swallows build their nests by first carrying mud in their beaks, looking for the roots and stems of wild grasses, and then binding them together with their own saliva; the inside is usually lined with softer materials, such as cloth, feathers, and so on. To make a nest for it at home, you can use materials around you; paper boxes and paper bowls are both fine. Remember to line the inside with softer toilet paper, and it is best to pad more paper towels at the bottom of the nest. Be careful not to place the nest in a cold place. The feathers on a young swallow's body are not yet fully grown, and young swallows picked up from outside especially need to be kept warm. The surrounding environment is best kept at around 30 degrees Celsius.
2. Second, you need to consider the issue of diet. It is best to prepare cotton swabs as feeding tools. Foods you can feed include chick feed, mashed fruit and egg, softened digestive biscuits, and so on. Occasionally, you can appropriately supplement it with some powdered vitamins. Normally, feed it once every two hours. When the swallow is asleep, you can stop feeding, but you must feed it at least eight times a day, about four mouthfuls each time, and each mouthful only needs to be about the size of a soybean.
In addition, do not give it only one kind of food for a long time, as it is prone to losing feathers.
