How to Raise Horses? An Introduction to Horse Raising Methods and Breeding Techniques
With the development of productivity, the role of horses in production activities has gradually weakened, but horse raising is still an enduring industry. So how do you raise horses?
1. How to Raise Horses
1. Build a horse shed
For horses, a horse shed is essential. They can rest inside it. When building a horse shed, you must pay attention to strengthening the winter insulation work. In winter, horses do not need to go outdoors to eat, because it is too cold outdoors. So starting in summer and autumn, we begin preparing dry feed for the horses. Winter is also a season when they are quite prone to illness. We need to pay attention to changes in their condition, and when disease appears, we must discover it as soon as possible and help treat them.
2. Raise them in separate groups
Stallions and fattening horses should be raised in separate groups, and males and females should be raised separately. They should only be put together when they are in heat for breeding. The blood relationship between male and female breeding horses should be distant; only through continuous improvement will the quality of the offspring be excellent, and inbreeding must be strictly prevented.
3. Feeding
Soaked bean cake, soybean meal, and cornmeal mixed with water as a wet feed. In summer, you must feed according to the trough and master the feeding amount well; the trough must be cleaned out to avoid leftovers spoiling. In winter, leftovers are prone to freezing.
4. Watering
Horses need to drink water twice every day. In winter, we put water in the manger. After the water is added, sometimes the horse cannot finish it and it freezes. We must pay attention to clearing out this frozen water. In winter, we can also appropriately feed it some feed to improve its health. On clear winter days, we can still let the horses out to breathe fresh air. Because horses also need fresh air to sustain themselves.
5. Disease prevention
Disease prevention is the most important part of the breeding industry, directly related to the success or failure of the business. According to disease prevention requirements, vaccinate at appropriate times (equine infectious anemia vaccine) and deworm twice. Every morning, the manure in the stable must be removed and washed clean, and the feed trough must also be washed at the same time. The manure storage place must be far from the pen and located downwind. Keep the environment inside and outside the pen clean and hygienic. To kill flies, mosquitoes, and horseflies, a 4% formalin solution plus sugar and rice or other food that flies like to eat can be used to kill flies and horseflies. Rat poison can be used for rats, but horses must absolutely not eat it by mistake. If a dead rat is found, burn it immediately; if a rat hole is found, plug it immediately. Disinfect thoroughly on a regular basis to prevent the occurrence of infectious diseases.
