How to Raise Chicks So They Won't Die? A Detailed Guide to Practical Feeding Methods
Chicks are the young of chickens, hatched from eggs. They are fluffy and quite cute, and many children buy them to raise at home. So how do you raise them so they won't die?
How do you raise chicks so they won't die?
1. Temperature
Chicks have fairly strict temperature requirements. Chicks raised in farms have dedicated warming facilities, and chicks generally need to live in an environment of around 33 degrees, after which the temperature is lowered by two degrees each week, and after about six weeks they can adapt to normal temperatures.
2. Feeding
A chick's digestive system is quite delicate, so water should be given in small amounts many times, which both prevents the chicks from getting thirsty and prevents diarrhea caused by drinking too much water at once. Also, when feeding, be careful not to give raw rice or millet, as these foods are still quite hard and the chicks cannot yet digest them. You can feed them some cooked white rice or millet, along with some grit, which helps the chicks digest. After a week, feed them grains and vegetable leaves.
3. Environment
Prepare a cardboard box, and use scissors or a fruit knife to make several air holes, then line the box with waste newspaper, and add toilet paper or other things that can keep the chicks warm.
4. Disease prevention
In addition to keeping the environment clean and hygienic, you also need to do a good job of prevention. The environment and cages should be disinfected, and the chickens should be given various vaccinations regularly.
