In summer, besides all kinds of fruits coming onto the market in colorful abundance, it is also a good season to eat crayfish. And besides being delicious, crayfish can also be bred at home. So how do you keep crayfish at home?

How to keep crayfish at home?

1. Container

Keeping crayfish at home can be done with an aquarium or a fish tank. Make a lid to prevent the crayfish from jumping out of the tank, spread a layer of sand, and place some small stones to simulate the natural environment more realistically, so the crayfish can adapt to life in the tank. Do not expose them to sunlight.

2. Temperature

The optimal temperature for crayfish feeding is 25-30 degrees. When the water temperature falls below 15 degrees, their activity decreases; below 8 degrees, they enter the overwintering period and stop feeding. Generally, among freshwater crayfish, females live about 24 months and males about 20 months.

3. Density

The stocking density of crayfish should not be too high, to avoid oxygen deficiency or other such situations.

4. Feeding

Crayfish are omnivorous and can eat both plant-based feed and animal-based feed. Plant-based feed is the main part: plant stalks, aquatic weeds, roots and leaves of aquatic plants, attached algae, filamentous algae, etc. Animal-based feed includes aquatic insects and snails, river mussels, fish meat, etc.

In addition, crayfish that have just molted their shells are best kept separately, to avoid death from being attacked by other crayfish.
