How to Keep a Campbell's Dwarf Hamster? Care Methods and Precautions
The Campbell's dwarf hamster, also known as the Campbell's dwarf hamster (Phodopus campbelli), is a species of hamster. It is very small in size, and many people like to keep it, so how do you keep a Campbell's dwarf hamster?
1. Cage requirements:
Go to the market and buy a cage specially designed for keeping hamsters. It should contain a water bottle, food bowl, running wheel, toilet, wood shavings, etc.
1. Bedding requirements: Spread a layer of wood shavings, wheat straw, dry grass or unprinted paper scraps on the bottom, then put in a small amount of soil, and then add a layer of dry grass. This provides a good growing environment and lets the hamster build nests and dig burrows.
2. Food bowl: The cage you buy usually comes with a food bowl, but if you make the water container yourself, you can make a food bowl on the edge of the container that is not too high and easy for the hamster to reach, and fix it in place so it will not tip over. During keeping, be sure to clean the food bowl promptly so the food does not go stale and cause the hamster to get sick. Because hamsters are not picky eaters, they will eat corn, wheat, peanuts, pine nuts, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, as well as beef, mealworms and so on, and they have the habit of storing food in their cheek pouches. If the food bowl is not clean, it is very easy for the hamster to get sick.
3. Drinking water: The cage you buy usually comes with a water dispenser, but when buying it you must check whether it leaks. If it leaks, do not use it. If you make the water container yourself, you can make a water dispenser at the side of the container and fix it in place so the dispenser will not tip over and wet the hamster, causing it to catch a chill and get sick.
4. Toilet: Put a plastic box in the cage or water container, then fill it with cat litter. However, because hamsters love cleanliness, you must remove the clumped cat litter every day or replace it all, to provide the hamster with a good living environment.
5. Bathing requirements: Hamsters like to bathe in cat litter, so you should build a special bathing room and put in disinfected bathing sand so they can bathe freely.
2. Temperature requirements:
Temperature requirements: The most suitable temperature is 20-28°C. Avoid places with direct sunlight or direct wind, but make sure there is ventilation. Do not place them too close to a TV, stereo or computer. Hamsters can hear sounds that humans cannot, so avoid radiation and noise. In summer, it is best not to turn on the air conditioner, because the air conditioner will make the temperature difference too large. Hamsters are very sensitive to temperature and catch cold easily. In winter, you can spread more bedding such as wood shavings, and provide the hamster with a wooden or grass house for warmth.
3. Feeding requirements:
1. Vegetables: leafy greens, carrots, spinach, cucumber, cabbage, pumpkin (green and yellow vegetables are best).
2. Seeds: sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts, pine nuts.
3. Fruits: apples, strawberries, cherries, etc.
4. Grains: chicken feed, bird feed, wheat, corn, millet.
5. Plants: dandelion, kudzu, plantain.
6. Animal protein: beef, chicken, boiled egg white, cheese, milk, yogurt, mealworms, barley worms.
