How to Raise Ladybugs? A Full Breakdown of Feeding Methods and Key Technical Points
Ladybugs have cute spots on their wings, and because of this, they are welcomed by people all over the world. Although ladybugs are best suited to living in nature, as long as you provide them with plenty of food, water, and a livable place, you can also try raising ladybugs at home.
For raising ladybugs, it is suitable to use a rectangular glass or acrylic box, with a box size of 26 cm * 16 cm * 18 cm as appropriate. The top of the container should be covered with an iron gauze mesh as a lid to prevent the ladybugs from escaping. Keeping 6~8 per box is enough.
Inside the box, you can place 2~3 washed ink bottles, filled more than half full with water, and insert into the bottles some rose or cherry blossom plants whose leaves have many aphids. The food for feeding should be mainly based on this, and you can also feed some plant-based feed such as water chestnut flesh, eggplant, tomato, beans, and the fruits, stems, and tender leaves of melons.
The varieties should be changed frequently, and the container should be cleaned promptly, removing leftover food, insect droppings, and other waste. To feed ladybugs, you can also make artificial feed: chop fresh pork liver, add honey, mash evenly at a 5:1 ratio and refrigerate. When using, warm it back up, put it in a feeding trough, mix with water, and feed.
