How to keep the swallowtail fish? A detailed guide to raising methods and daily care
The swallowtail fish is an ornamental fish with a light brown body color and a body length of 8-10cm. Many people like to keep one at home, so how do you keep the swallowtail fish?
1. Choosing a fish tank and disinfection
When choosing a fish tank, it is recommended to choose a specification with length, width and height of 120*50*45cm respectively. After choosing the tank, it must be sterilized and disinfected before use. Generally, scrub it once with high-concentration potassium permanganate water, then soak the fish tank in low-concentration potassium permanganate water for about a day.
2. Choosing fish
Go to a specialty fishing store to buy one or several robust, lively and lovely fish, put them in a bag, add some water and take them home.
3. Putting the fish in
Pour out the low-concentration potassium permanganate water in the fish tank, pour in some acidic soft water, put the fish together with the bag into the water and let it float for about 15 minutes, then open the bag and put the fish into the tank.
4. Feeding requirements
Do not feed them during the first three days. After that, feed them twice a day, and it is best if the small fish finish eating within five minutes each time.
5. Changing the water
Change 1/3 or 1/2 of the water about every three days. Be careful not to use freshly drawn tap water. After drawing tap water, it is best to let it sit for two or three days before changing the water for the small fish, because tap water contains a large amount of substances harmful to fish. Another thing is to pay attention to controlling the water temperature when changing the water. It is best if the water temperature of the new water and the water in the original tank does not differ by more than plus or minus 1 degree.
6. Water temperature requirements
The water temperature is generally best at 28-30°C. Under natural conditions it is very difficult to meet this requirement throughout the four seasons, so a heating rod must be used. When choosing a heating rod, be sure to choose a product of reliable quality.
7. Lighting equipment
The swallowtail fish does not have high lighting requirements. Generally, a 40W light bulb is enough for a 15 sq m fish tank, but on a breeding tank an additional small light should be added as an all-night light. First, it avoids frightening the fish at the moment of switching on and off, and second, it helps the fry attach to the parent fish and prevents the large fish from injuring the fry. Specifications ranging from 10-40w can be chosen.
