In the early stage, constipation, with dry and hard dung pellets whose surface is covered with a large amount of white intestinal mucus; in the later stage, diarrhea, with foul-smelling feces containing mucus or blood. In boars, the prepuce becomes inflamed and the preputial sheath accumulates urine; when squeezed by hand, a foul-smelling turbid liquid is ejected. Piglets may show neurological symptoms, manifesting as teeth grinding, backing up, circling, rigidity, lying on the side and paddling movements, and even coma, etc.
