Mandarin fish is a specialty fish of Guangxi. Its flesh is tender and smooth, with few small bones, and the soup it makes is very delicious, so market demand is good. What are the conditions for mandarin fish farming?

Conditions for mandarin fish farming

1. Ponds for raising mandarin fish require good bottom soil, and ponds with good bottom soil also have relatively good water quality, so farming generally goes smoothly. The pond bottom silt should preferably be about 10 cm; the silt must not be too deep. In addition, sandy loam is relatively good: sandy soil has a strong water-purifying capacity and is suitable for relatively low-yield ponds, such as those below 3000 jin/mu, while loam has strong adsorption and is suitable for high-yield ponds, such as those above 4000 jin/mu.

2. The water quality of ponds for raising mandarin fish is best at moderate fertility. Clear, lean water results in slow growth and frequent disease. Overly fertile water has much organic matter and many oxygen-consuming factors, and water quality is prone to deterioration. Water of moderate fertility has a large plankton content, produces much oxygen through photosynthesis, and is rich in dissolved oxygen; it also has many microorganisms, and beneficial populations often dominate, inhibiting the reproduction of disease-causing microorganisms, so there is less disease.

3. Mandarin fish are benthic fish, and they have a high oxygen consumption rate and weak tolerance to low oxygen, so ponds for raising mandarin fish must be equipped with good drainage, irrigation and aeration equipment.

4. Roots blowers cannot be turned on during the day in high-temperature periods, and should be turned on more in low-temperature, rainy and nighttime periods; paddlewheel aerators cannot be turned on in turbid ponds during hot, sunny daytime, because when the aerator is not turned on at this time, dissolved oxygen at the pond bottom will be higher, and the water body's self-purification capacity will also increase; however, when the water is thick green or on rainy days, they must be turned on more. In some regions, when mandarin fish farming water is thick green and aeration is insufficient on rainy days, the mandarin fish remain in a long-term sub-hypoxic state, and farming diseases are relatively more common. This is typically more problematic in Jiangsu during the rainy season in July-August; waterwheels are also not very effective for turbid water and deep water.

5. To make mandarin fish's food intake nutritionally balanced, multiple types of forage fish should be fed. Before feeding forage fish, the forage fish must be soaked and disinfected with drugs to kill parasites, to prevent pathogens from being brought in by the forage fish and to cut off the routes of pathogen transmission.

During mandarin fish farming, more attention should be paid to changes in water quality, and more targeted preventive measures should be taken.
