The kuruma prawn can also be called flower prawn, bamboo node prawn, flower tail prawn, banded prawn, and car prawn. It has the advantages of low-temperature tolerance, low farming cost, suitability of live prawns for long-distance transport, sale as live prawns on the market, and high market prices. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, China, Guangdong in China, the Philippines, Singapore, northern Australia, India, eastern Africa, and the Red Sea. So let us learn about the secrets of kuruma prawn farming below.

1. Feed feeding

For feed feeding, do not feed in the first week after releasing the seedlings. Start feeding in the second week. Feed prawn feed at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a feeding rate of 5% (use fixed-point feeding to observe their feeding situation). When the prawn body weight is 1 g to 5 g, the daily feeding amount is 7% to 10% of the total prawn weight; when the prawn body weight is 5 g to 10 g, feed at 4% to 7%; when the prawn body weight is 10 g to 20 g, feed at 3% to 4%.

2. Survival rate

To observe the survival rate, from the third week after releasing the seedlings, drain the water and use electric shocks to observe the survival rate, so as to determine whether more seedlings need to be introduced.

3. Disinfection

For disinfection and water quality control, starting from the day feed begins, drain water once every two weeks, use the electric shock method to promote molting, and when adding water, use 10 ppm bleaching powder plus 5 ppm quicklime for disinfection.

4. Disease prevention and control

For disease prevention and control, from the third week after releasing the seedlings, begin feeding medicated bait: 1 jin of bait plus 1 g of vitamin C.

5. Salinity

Although the kuruma prawn is a euryhaline prawn, its suitable salinity range is 15 to 30. The salinity of seawater from deep underground wells is generally around 27.

6. Temperature

The optimum temperature range for kuruma prawns is 25 to 30 degrees. They stop feeding at 8 to 10 degrees and die below 5 degrees.
