A Detailed Guide to Cucumber Cultivation Methods and Precautions
Cucumbers are grown in all parts of China, and in many regions they are cultivated in greenhouses or plastic tunnels; they are now widely grown in temperate and tropical regions. Today we will introduce the cultivation methods and precautions for cucumbers.
1. Cucumber cultivation methods
1. Temperature: Cucumbers like a warm growing environment, with a normal growing temperature between 20°C and 32°C, and it must not go below 15°C, to avoid frost damage. High temperatures also need attention, and it should preferably not exceed 35°C, otherwise the branches and leaves are easily scorched, and the cucumbers will also dehydrate.
2. Watering: Cucumbers need sufficient water during the growing period, which can promote the growth and development of the seedlings. Watering once every three days is enough. During the flowering period, do not water too much, to prevent excessive watering from causing the plant to drop flowers frequently.
3. Fertilizing: Before planting, sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied to help the seedlings grow. At the same time, during the growing period, fertilizer can be applied several times as a top dressing, mainly chemical fertilizer. Animal manure can also be used as a top dressing, which can increase yield and enhance the plant's immunity.
2. Precautions for growing cucumbers
1. Propagation: Sowing is the main method of propagation. Sowing can be done in spring. To prevent moisture loss, a layer of plastic wrap needs to be covered, and then gently pressed, which helps the seeds grow.
2. Pests: Scale insects appear in summer and will seriously affect the normal growth of cucumbers. A dichlorvos solution can be used to spray the branches and leaves. After spraying, do not pour water on them.
Cucumber is one of the summer vegetables in all parts of China. Its stems and vines can be used medicinally, with anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and antispasmodic effects.
