A Complete Analysis of the Key Technical Points for Channel Catfish Farming
The channel catfish is a relatively common species, and today we are going to introduce the farming techniques for channel catfish. Let us take a look together!
1. Farming techniques for channel catfish
To farm channel catfish artificially, you need to select fry with a relatively good physique and clean the pond thoroughly. Before overwintering, the fry should be given intensive cultivation measures, and the water temperature in winter should be kept above 10°C. The main ingredients of artificial compound feed are fishmeal, cornmeal, soybean meal, vitamins and minerals, etc.; as they gradually grow larger, a polyculture format can be adopted to increase the total output of fish species.
2. Disease prevention and control
1. Channel catfish virus disease
The symptoms are congestion at the base of the fins and on the skin, abdominal swelling, increased ascites, protruding eyes, whitish gill filaments, red and swollen kidneys, enlarged spleen, and congestion of the blood vessels in the internal organs. It mainly harms fry or fingerlings when summer temperatures are high. Infected fish are mostly fry or fingerlings with a body length of less than 10 cm or a body weight below 10 grams.
Prevention and control methods:
1) Pay close attention to water quality conditions and maintain a good pond environment. The dissolved oxygen in the pond water should be kept above 4 mg per liter.
2) The stocking density of fry should preferably be less than 10,000 fish per 667 sq m.
3) When the water temperature is above 29°C, try not to carry out seine netting operations or transport fry.
2. Enteric septicemia
The fish body has small red spots or congestion all over, and the liver or other internal organs also have similar spots, with whitish gill filaments; sometimes grayish-white spots appear on the skin of affected fish; the pathogen can also infect the brain, at which point sick fish often swim in circles, behave abnormally, and soon die.
Prevention and control methods:
1) Thoroughly clear the pond and disinfect it with quicklime. Pond bottom sludge that is too deep should be removed to improve the ecological environment.
2) Before the fingerlings are put into the pond, soak them in a 10 g to 30 g per liter saltwater solution for 5 minutes to 20 minutes; for every 100 kg of fish, use 25 g of Baixuening per day, mix it into the feed and feed it, for three to four consecutive days.
