Homemade Snake Feed Formula and Preparation Method Explained in Detail
The snake is a generally aggressive animal, but because its meat is delicious and its nutritional value is high, more and more people have been farming snakes in recent years, so how should snake farmers make a homemade snake feed formula?
1. The living habits of snakes
The snake is a poikilothermic animal whose body temperature changes with the air temperature, because the snake itself does not have a fully developed thermoregulatory mechanism to produce and maintain a constant body temperature.
The most suitable temperature for snake activity is 20-30°C; above about 35°C they lose their appetite and become ill, and above 40~45°C they die quickly.
Air humidity also has a great influence on snakes, and generally 50~70% is suitable. If it is too high, they are prone to mildew spot disease and pneumonia, and the mortality rate in the south is relatively high; if it is too low (for example, during the spring drought period in the north), then because water evaporates too quickly it is unfavorable for molting (especially for pregnant snakes), affecting their continued growth and even causing death.
Snakes generally mate in spring and early summer and lay eggs and incubate them in summer, otherwise the young snakes do not have enough time to accumulate enough fat to get through hibernation. For young snakes born after September, the mortality rate is as high as 50%.
2. Homemade snake feed formula
There are many homemade snake feed formulas:
1. Crude fiber, chicken meat, crude protein, mineral salts and multivitamins can be made into sausages in a certain proportion for feeding.
When feeding, cut them into small pieces and coat the outside with egg white or mashed frog juice to induce the young snakes to eat; they can be force-fed to small young snakes, and then the snakes can gradually be trained to eat on their own.
2. Fish meat, lean meat, eggs, nutritional supplements and so on can also be mixed together to make feed. The specific feed needs to be appropriately adjusted according to the snake species.
When this feed is used to feed the king rat snake, the snake likes to eat it and it is easy to digest. This feed is also suitable for feeding the water snake, python and tiger-tailed snake. When feeding the black-browed rat snake, do not use fish and eggs, and use only pork. When feeding the Chinese cobra, prepare it with fish meat only.
