How to Raise an Octopus: A Detailed Guide to Breeding Methods and Key Technical Points
The octopus is an invertebrate with a short oval body and no fins. It has eight arms on its head, which is why it is also called the “eight-band fish”. So how do you raise an octopus?
1. Selection of water temperature and rearing tank
Octopuses are suited to living in water temperatures of 15°C~23°C, and every spring and autumn is very suitable for their growth and breeding. Choose the area of the net cage according to the size and number of the octopuses.
2. Feed formulation
Choose some small fish fry and shellfish as its food. You can also directly feed frozen small fish to the octopus, but during this process, you must keep the food fresh and clean.
3. Changing the water
In some seasons, the water in the net cage must be changed once every half month. When the temperature is low in winter, you can choose to thoroughly sterilize the net cage once every month.
4. Disinfection
The feeding tools and net cages must be disinfected regularly. After half a month of stocking, deaths are very likely to occur. As the body grows, disease resistance gradually increases. Therefore, different rearing methods must be used according to size,
In autumn and winter, octopuses often live in burrows in the mud and sand of relatively deep sea areas. They usually crawl with their arms, and sometimes swim by stretching the membrane between their arms, or use the funnel on the lower part of the head to spray water for rapid backward movement.
