A Detailed Guide to Cymbidium ensifolium Cultivation Methods and Care Knowledge
The orchid is a fresh and elegantly simple plant, loved by people since ancient times. Cymbidium ensifolium is a type of orchid, widely used in garden landscaping and decoration, and is also an excellent green plant for embellishing the home environment. Cultivating Cymbidium ensifolium on balconies, windowsills, living rooms, studies, and other places can achieve a very good decorative effect. Below, I will introduce the cultivation methods and care knowledge for Cymbidium ensifolium.
1. Light
It is a plant that relatively likes light, but it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight; giving it scattered light is sufficient. When the weather is cold, placing it in the light all day is no problem, but when the weather is hot, it needs appropriate shading.
2. Watering
It is afraid of waterlogging, so when watering, you must not water too much. Before watering, first check whether the potting soil color is dark or light; if it is light, you can water, but if it is dark, do not water. When watering orchids such as Cymbidium ensifolium, you must follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet. In summer, do not water at noon when temperatures are high; when the temperature is above 35°C, you need to wait until the evening when the temperature is around 30°C before watering. Watering needs to be done with a fine, slow stream so that the water fully penetrates the soil, ensuring every corner has sufficient water, but you also must not water too much, as water accumulation easily causes root rot. Generally, stop watering when you see water seeping from the bottom of the pot.
3. Fertilizing
To fertilize Cymbidium ensifolium, you can use orchid-specific fertilizer. We can also use agricultural compound fertilizer. Granular compound fertilizer is generally placed directly on the surface of the potting soil, then covered with some soil, and then watered. For one pot of orchid, just place 5 granules of compound fertilizer at a time. Too much fertilizer easily burns the roots, and when placing fertilizer, it cannot be placed at the root of the orchid; it needs to be more than 3 cm away from the roots. For regular fertilization of Cymbidium ensifolium, you can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate diluted and applied with a spray bottle, which can promote the Cymbidium ensifolium's need for trace elements.
4. Potting Soil
The requirements for potting soil are quite high; you need to use soil with particularly good air permeability, because its root system is relatively large, to avoid root rot. Using fired soil mixed with pond mud will do.
