How to Grow Echeveria 'Comic Tom'? A Detailed Guide to Care Methods and Tips
Echeveria 'Comic Tom' is a succulent plant of the genus Sedum in the family Crassulaceae, and its name is a direct translation. At present, there is very little information about Comic Tom online, and compared with other succulents, Comic Tom is a bit more expensive. So, how do you grow Comic Tom?
1. How to Grow Comic Tom
1. Potting soil
Soil is the most critical factor when growing Comic Tom. You need to choose some fertile, loose peat soil; only with fertile soil can it grow more side branches. Then prepare some granular akadama soil, vermiculite and coal cinders. Granular soil is very breathable and airy, which is very beneficial to its root system, and its drainage effect is also good. After mixing the soil, it can be potted. Before potting, you can sprinkle some organic base fertilizer, which can keep the soil more fertile, and it will naturally grow faster.
2. Plenty of sunlight
Comic Tom is fairly light-loving, and if conditions allow, it is best to grow it outdoors, because in this way it can receive the most even and sufficient light, which will make Comic Tom's leaves fuller and more compact, and the color will be more vivid. Another advantage of outdoor growing is that it can feel the temperature difference between day and night, which can bring Comic Tom into its prime state faster, with blue, red and purple coexisting on the leaves, making it very beautiful. Of course, in summer it should be moved indoors to a semi-shady spot to receive scattered light, otherwise the strong summer light will scorch Comic Tom and may even cause the plant to dry out.
3. Moderate watering
Comic Tom is fairly drought-tolerant, but during the spring and autumn growing seasons, it still needs to be kept sufficiently watered, which will let it grow side branches faster and make the leaves fuller. When the potting soil is half dry, you can water it thoroughly, about once every 5-7 days. In the heat of midsummer, Comic Tom will enter a dormant stage and its absorption capacity will decline, so the amount of water should be reduced somewhat. Basically, when the potting soil is completely dry, water a small amount to maintain the plant's vitality, about once every 2 weeks. In winter, water very little, because Comic Tom originates in the tropics and is fairly afraid of cold; the soil should be kept dry, and watering once a month is enough. If the room temperature is below 3 degrees, stop watering, and wait until the weather warms up to gradually resume.
