The green pufferfish, also known as the submarine fish or golden puffer, is an ornamental fish with high ornamental value, and many people keep a few at home, so how do you keep green pufferfish?

1. Water quality requirements

The green pufferfish is suitable for growing in weakly alkaline water with a pH of 7-8, and the water flow should not be too strong, so as to prevent the green pufferfish from being unable to swim. If there is a filtration system in the water, activated carbon cannot be added, to avoid a drop in the water's pH. In addition, the water transparency should preferably be 40cm.

2. Temperature requirements

The suitable water temperature for green pufferfish is above 25-28 degrees; if it is below 16 degrees, the appetite will decrease, and if it is below 11 degrees, it will stop feeding. Therefore, in winter, a heating pump can be used appropriately to raise the temperature and promote its growth.

3. Oxygen requirements

Green pufferfish have relatively high requirements for dissolved oxygen in the water. Generally, the dissolved oxygen in pond water should be above 5-7 mg/L. When the dissolved oxygen in the pond water is 3 mg/L, it will slightly gasp at the surface, and when the dissolved oxygen in the pond water is below 1.5 mg/L, it will die if not handled promptly. Therefore, before breeding, it is best to place an oxygen pump inside to ensure sufficient oxygen content in the water.

4. Food requirements

Green pufferfish are not picky eaters; they eat small fish, small shrimp, breadworms, bloodworms, nematodes, and so on. However, due to their biting habit, they will make a “coo coo” sound when caught, so under natural conditions they mainly feed on aquatic invertebrates. If kept artificially, after food training they can also eat artificial compound feed. When feeding, the food must be sufficient; if there is not enough food, they will kill each other.

5. Mixed keeping requirements

Green pufferfish are naturally fierce and have a large appetite, so they cannot be kept together with other fish. If kept together, they will actively attack other fish. When kept alone, the density should not be too high, and more aquatic plants should be placed in the tank.

Overall, green pufferfish are still quite easy to keep. As long as the water quality is kept weakly alkaline, the water temperature is 25-28 degrees, dissolved oxygen is sufficient, and food is sufficient, they can be kept alive. However, because they are naturally fierce and have a large appetite, they cannot be kept together with other fish.
