Freshwater shrimp is a kind of aquatic product that many people love to eat, so how do you raise freshwater shrimp? What are its main nutritional values? Let's take a look!

1. Basic Introduction to Freshwater Shrimp

Freshwater shrimp live mainly in warm regions, some in brackish water, distributed across the freshwater waters of Europe, North Africa and the Near East, living in groups among aquatic plants. Freshwater shrimp include the oriental river prawn, river shrimp, grass shrimp and others; there are also brackish-water shrimp such as white shrimp.

2. How Do You Raise Freshwater Shrimp?

Select robust, disease-free and uninjured freshwater shrimp for farming, prepare a pond suitable for freshwater shrimp growth and set up escape-prevention measures. After the shrimp fry are placed in the pond, bait must be put in on schedule, and management of factors such as temperature and pH must be done well.

Among these:

The selection of shrimp fry also requires attention: the length of the shrimp fry should be above 0.8 cm, and the size of the shrimp seed is best above 3 cm. Shrimp raised in the same batch should be basically consistent in size. The shrimp must be tenacious in vitality. Generally, today's shrimp fry are artificially bred; if wild ones are to be stocked, it is best to keep them separate from the artificially raised ones, so as to avoid fighting each other and reducing yield.

The pond used for farming should be 1-1.5 m deep, with an area above 4 mu, but not too large, not exceeding 10 mu. The pond edges should have a slope, and the pond bottom soil should be soft and flat. The slope at the pond edge should be firm, and the water source quality good. It is best to have a water level control system, as well as a scientific drainage and irrigation system.

For escape-prevention measures, plastic film or plastic boards are generally enough. Before releasing water, we need to thoroughly disinfect the pond once, using quicklime, bleaching powder, bleaching powder essence or similar things. After disinfection, the pond needs to air-dry for about one month, and then the water can be put into the pond and the shrimp fry stocked.

3. Nutritional Value of Freshwater Shrimp

1. It contains relatively rich nutrients such as protein and calcium, so it cannot be eaten together with fruits containing tannic acid, such as grapes, pomegranates, hawthorn and persimmons, otherwise it will irritate the stomach and intestines, cause discomfort in the human body, and produce symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Seafood and these fruits should be eaten at least 2 hours apart.

2. Shrimp shells are rich in calcium and also contain an animal fiber known as chitin, which is a kind of polysaccharide. After chemical processing to dissolve it in water, it can be made into the health food chitosan.

3. Shrimp is rich in magnesium. Magnesium plays an important regulatory role in heart activity and can protect the cardiovascular system well. It can reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, prevent arteriosclerosis and at the same time dilate the coronary arteries, which helps prevent high blood pressure and myocardial infarction.
