How to Grow Sapphire Succulent? A Full Guide to Its Care
The sapphire has a compact plant shape, quickly forms clusters, and its leaves are usually tightly arranged and very easy to color up. Placed indoors, it has high ornamental value. So how do you grow the sapphire succulent?
1. Soil
The sapphire has strong adaptability. It is recommended to choose fertile soil with good air permeability; you can use leaf mold plus some granular vermiculite and akadama.
2. Watering
The sapphire is a relatively drought-tolerant succulent. In spring and autumn, once the soil is slightly dry, you can water it appropriately. Under normal conditions, keep watering about once a week; if it is rainy or cloudy, there is no need to water. When the temperature turns cold in winter, gradually reduce the amount of watering, and when it drops to freezing point, stop watering, as this can improve its cold resistance.
3. Light
The sapphire is a light-loving plant; only with sufficient light will it show a rosy color and become especially beautiful. During the vigorous growth period, it can be placed outdoors or on a balcony all day to receive light. Long light hours are good for the sapphire's growth, making the leaves tight, plump and glossy. When the light is strong in summer, shade it appropriately; at this time, place the ruby in a well-ventilated spot at home such as a corridor or stairway entrance. This is good for the normal growth of the sapphire succulent.
4. Fertilizing
The sapphire can grow normally without fertilizing. If you want to fertilize, during its vigorous growth period you can apply an appropriate amount of decomposed fertilizer according to the specific situation; it is generally recommended to fertilize in the morning or evening.
The sapphire succulent easily forms clusters, so it can be propagated by division when repotting. Compared with other plants, it is relatively easy to keep alive, so it is very suitable for beginners to grow.
