Lamb price market analysis

Since late July, lamb market prices have remained high and stable, but in most main producing areas, prices still rose. In fact, this trend began as early as the start of summer. Although summer is the off-season for lamb, this year is different.

This year, lamb prices rose against the trend during the off-season. At present, many farmers believe that with the arrival of the peak consumption season for lamb in autumn and winter, lamb prices will continue to rise, so there is a serious sentiment of holding back and delaying sales, artificially creating a situation of tight supply. Affected by African swine fever, pork prices rose rapidly and production capacity declined, driving up lamb prices. Some farms and farmers exited, and breeding costs rose across various places. In addition, this year all major lamb producing areas suffered no major diseases or disasters, but the number of sheep on hand decreased somewhat compared with last year, and lamb prices rose considerably.
