Can cicada farming be done at all? The answer is here

Many of us have heard of the cicada, but few dare to eat it. In fact, the cicada has fairly high nutritional value, and trying it occasionally is quite good. So can cicada farming be done at all? Let's take a look!

1. Can cicada farming be done at all

Cicada farming is feasible. Besides wild cicadas, many artificially farmed cicadas now appear on the market. Artificially farmed cicadas are relatively cheaper, but more convenient to buy.

2. The difference between wild cicadas and farmed cicadas

1. At present, the retail price of cicadas on the market is about one yuan each, and the price of those processed and ready to eat in restaurants is somewhat higher. Merchants report that artificially farmed cicadas are usually a bit cheaper than wild ones. Their sales are also not as good as wild ones; people think wild ones taste a bit better, and although they cost a bit more, people are more willing to choose wild cicadas.

2. Whether wild or artificially farmed, cicadas do not differ much in living habits. Even artificially farmed cicadas are raised free-range in orchards, living on the sap of tree roots; those who say artificial farming uses feed really do open up the imagination.

3. In fact, what affects the taste of cicadas mainly depends on the tree species on which the cicadas grow; cicadas mainly grow by absorbing the sap of tree roots and stems, and from egg to insect generally takes 3 to 5 years, with some cicada species even needing 8 to 10 years or even longer before they break through the soil. So different kinds of tree species will affect the taste and flavor of cicadas.
