How to care for turtles in October? Master these autumn keeping points
First, starting from September, feed more food, twice a day, so it builds up enough fat for overwintering. Once the turtle stops eating, soak it in warm water to let it defecate and clear its intestines. Then spread moist thick sand in the container holding the turtle and do a good job of keeping it warm; once the turtle enters hibernation, just keep the temperature at 1-10°C. In addition, after the turtle enters hibernation, pay attention to the following points.
What are the points to note during turtle hibernation?
1. When the water temperature is below 20°C, the turtle will lose its appetite. Feed the turtle well in the two months before hibernation, and fast it in the week before, otherwise the leftover food residue in the intestines cannot be digested and absorbed normally, which will affect the turtle's health.
2. Turtles begin hibernating below 10°C, and the temperature must be between 0-10°C. Above 10°C the turtle will not hibernate, and below 0°C danger can occur.
3. The tank holding the turtle should be placed in a quiet and rather dark place. Do not put it outdoors during hibernation unless you can ensure the local winter minimum temperature is above 0°C.
4. Turtles in poor health cannot hibernate. For small turtles and juvenile turtles, it is recommended not to hibernate them; it is very hard for them to get through the winter.
5. For turtles that do not hibernate in sand, you can place them in shallow water and cover them with a layer of wet cotton gauze to keep them moist, which also provides some insulation. For turtles that hibernate in sand, make sure the sand is clean and free of contamination. During the turtle's hibernation, keep the sand moist.
