How to Store Live Swimming Crabs? Practical Storage Methods Shared
Swimming crab is a delicious seafood product and is very popular in seafood markets. Fresh swimming crab tastes better, so storage is a very important issue. So how do you store live swimming crabs?
1. Common storage methods
1. Put them in the bathtub: put them in the bathtub and let the bathtub serve temporarily as a holding pool. Gently place the live crabs you bought into it, add just enough water to cover the crabs so they can breathe when standing upright, and depending on how long you need to keep them, put a small amount of small fish and small shrimp into the water.
2. Put them in a plastic basin or bucket: you can put the crabs in a taller plastic bucket/basin with smooth inner walls. Be careful not to stack them. Add water to half the height of the crabs; do not bury the crabs completely, because if the water is too deep they will be unable to breathe.
3. Put them in the refrigerator: live crabs can also be stored in the refrigerator, but pay attention to the method. First, based on your refrigerator's freezer compartment, find a foam box of a suitable size, then tie the crabs' legs and claws, place them tightly packed one by one in the foam box, and then add water to the box until it covers the surface of the crabs. Finally, cover the foam box well and put it in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator.
2. How long can swimming crabs be stored?
Swimming crabs should not be stored for too long; it is best to eat them as soon as possible. If they are stored too long, the nutrients in the crabs' bodies will be consumed, and the meat will not be as delicious. Frozen swimming crabs can be stored for about 1-3 months, and note that they must not be thawed repeatedly. Generally speaking, it is best to finish eating crabs within 1-3 days after buying them.
Although swimming crabs are delicious, they should not be stored for too long. Only fresh meat tastes the best, so it is best not to store them for a long time.
