The Venus flytrap is a perennial herbaceous plant native to North America and a very interesting carnivorous plant. It has now become the most popular plant to grow in the country. So how do you grow Venus flytrap seedlings?

1. How to grow Venus flytrap seedlings

1. Soil

Do not add fertilizer to the soil used for planting. The Venus flytrap likes somewhat acidic soil. Peat and granular material (perlite, gravel, etc.) at 1:1, and the soil should be replaced once a year in spring.

2. Light

A swamp plant, its native environment has no tall plants for shade, and it likes sunlight. When grown at home, it can receive full sun in spring, autumn and winter. In summer in the south, add 50{bf} shade or place it on a sunny windowsill indoors. Alternatively, use a 40W lamp tube 30cm above the plant for artificial light cultivation, with a lighting time of 12 hours/day.

3. Water

Use soft water such as purified water or rainwater as much as possible. Use the tray method (called the “waist water” method in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, China) to create a small environment similar to its native habitat. The specific method is: place the Venus flytrap pot in a tray or glass tank, add water to a depth of 3cm, and replenish the water regularly.

4. Humidity

The native environment of the Venus flytrap is a swampy grassland with relatively high humidity. If a large water tray is used for the tray method, the nearby humidity will be a little higher. You can also add a layer of sphagnum moss on the surface soil of the pot, which also helps maintain air humidity.
