Keeping fish and growing flowers is a major hobby for many people living in cities, and the various pet fish in flower, bird, and fish markets are also very popular, such as the veiltail betta, which is one of them. Below is an introduction to how to keep it so that it looks its best.

How to keep a veiltail betta?

1. Water temperature

The veiltail betta is not demanding when it comes to temperature; it can generally survive within 20-30°C, and it grows best when the water temperature is 24-27°C; neutral water is suitable for the pH, with a pH value of 6.5-7.2; under artificial rearing conditions, the dissolved oxygen content is best kept at 5mg/l.

2. Container

A veiltail betta can be kept in an aquarium or an ordinary fish tank. Spread a thin layer of cleanly washed substrate sand or colored sand on the bottom of the container, and appropriately plant aquatic plants with low oxygen demands, such as hornwort and black algae. In addition, if the lighting at the container's location is insufficient, lamps need to be set up to facilitate photosynthesis in the aquatic plants.

3. Feeding

The veiltail betta is not picky about bait; you can use blanched green vegetables, green algae, or tubifex worms, bloodworms, breadworms, etc. It is recommended that you feed these baits mixed with artificial compound feed. Also, when feeding, you should feed at fixed times and fixed locations; after a long time, they will wait at that spot for feeding. When feeding live bait to bettas, it must be rinsed first, and each feeding should be no more than what they can finish within 5 minutes; feeding once a day is enough.

4. Changing the water

Every 3-7 days, use a plastic hose to remove feces and dirt from the bottom of the tank by siphon method, and draw off about 1/3 of the dirty water, then add dechlorinated tap water to create a clean water quality environment.

Male veiltail bettas are prone to real fighting among themselves, so try to avoid keeping several males together. However, they can still be kept together with other tropical ornamental fish.
