Is the bullfrog a nationally protected animal? Many friends may be a little confused about this question and cannot give an accurate answer, so let's take a look together today!

1. Is the bullfrog a nationally protected animal

The bullfrog is not a nationally protected animal. The bullfrog is native to North America and was later introduced to our country and bred on a large scale, making it one of the better-known farmed species.

2. How to carry out overwintering management for bullfrogs

1. Cave overwintering

To accommodate the bullfrog's habit of digging holes and lying dormant, loosen the soil around the frog pond, and in a sunny, wind-sheltered spot at the water level line, dig several caves 15cm in diameter and 1m deep, keeping them moist so that the bullfrogs can enter the caves to hibernate.

2. Diving overwintering

The frog pond should maintain a water depth of 1-1.2m, and the water surface should not be allowed to freeze. A layer of silt 6-9cm thick should be left at the bottom of the pond so that the bullfrogs can dive into the silt and lie dormant through the winter. When there is continuous cold freezing weather, the ice on the water surface should be broken to prevent the water body from freezing and causing the bullfrogs' body fluids and blood to coagulate.

3. Straw curtain overwintering

Build an earthen wall on the north side of the frog pond, about 70cm high, and build triangular earthen walls on the east and west ends that are high in the north and low in the south. About 40cm above the water surface, set up a frame with wood and bamboo, lay straw curtains on it (overlapping repeatedly), and press the surroundings tightly against the pond edge to keep the water temperature at around 10°C.

4. Indoor overwintering

Indoors, on a sunny side, build a pond about 50cm high with bricks, spread about 30cm of loose soil inside the pond, and then place a water basin in the pond with its rim level with the soil, so that the soil maintains a certain humidity for a long time. Cover the pond opening with plastic film to seal it, and a 40W light bulb can also be hung in the pond to raise the temperature, ensuring the bullfrogs overwinter safely.
