The arowana is a rather beautiful ornamental fish. Because their scales are full of luster and their appearance looks very imposing, they are deeply loved by fish keepers. Common arowana varieties include the green arowana, red arowana, crossback golden arowana, and so on, and they are a relatively ancient freshwater fish. Now wild resources are becoming fewer and fewer, and many are artificially bred, so how much are arowana fry wholesale prices? How to rear them?

1. How much are arowana fry wholesale prices?

Arowana fry wholesale prices range from a few dozen yuan to several thousand yuan, or even more expensive, because there are too many arowana varieties, and prices in different places also differ to some extent. However, if you are raising them yourself, it is not recommended to buy fry that are too small. If you are farming them with professional equipment, then you can negotiate with the local fry market.

2. How are arowana fry reared?

1. Breeding pond

The water body designed for indoor breeding ponds generally needs to be relatively large, and they are usually built side by side, which makes it convenient to install various types of auxiliary equipment and also convenient for alternating use. During rearing, juvenile fish and adult fish of various sizes should be raised in grades, and the environment should be kept quiet.

When breeding ponds are used for reproduction, a natural ecological simulation should be adopted. The various ponds used for cultivating broodstock have a spacious water environment, with a distinction between deep-water areas and shallow-water areas. In the shallow-water areas, floating plants are grown, or some semi-emergent plants are planted in the water body, for naturally paired arowanas to build nests when spawning, and the water body is kept with a slight current to reduce pathogens and increase dissolved oxygen.

2. Aquarium

When using an aquarium to rear arowanas, a suitable aquarium should be selected according to the size of the fish.

To prevent juvenile fish from being startled and expanding their range of activity, the smaller the juvenile fish, the smaller the aquarium should be. Juvenile fish with a body length of 10~15cm are raised in a 50~70cm aquarium, and larger juvenile fish with a body length of 16~20cm are raised in a 70~120cm aquarium. Small arowanas have the habit of jumping at the water surface, so the upper part of various aquariums should be fitted with a suitable net cover or cover plate to prevent the arowana from jumping out. There should be about 10cm of space between the net cover or cover plate and the water surface. After being reared this way for a period, they are then transferred to a larger water body for rearing.

3. Auxiliary equipment

Generally, it is best to have two filters in an aquarium used for rearing arowanas. One is physical filtration, specially handling solid particulate matter such as fish feces, and the other is biochemical filtration, specially handling chemical substances. In this way, various water quality factors can be kept at good indicators. It should be matched with sufficient-power aeration equipment, a heater rod, and lighting.

Equipping a low-power surf pump can create a suitably strong water current, increase the dissolved oxygen in the water, and at the same time the water current can also increase the arowana's amount of exercise, thereby improving health.

For large aquariums, it is best to properly plant some aquatic plants, which not only helps supply more oxygen during the day, but also can regulate light, stabilize water quality, and benefit the survival and reproduction of plankton in the water.

4. Daily care

Arowana fry are generally reared by graded cultivation. Fry that have just left the parent fish are less than 3cm in body length. In daily care, bait fish flesh is ground into a fine paste and fed together with smaller biological baits such as fresh chironomid larvae, fed 4~6 times a day. After 2~3 months of rearing, the small arowana fry can grow to about 10cm and are moved into a larger breeding pond for the next grade of cultivation. Within a few days, they gradually transition to being fed bait “water flowers” small fry or other insects, small shrimp, minced fresh meat, and other palatable bait.

From the start of larval fish rearing, sufficient plankton or other palatable bait must be prepared, so that after the arowana larvae consume their own yolk sac, they can feed on palatable animal bait as soon as they begin feeding.

When the larval fish hatch, prevent them from being sucked onto the filter inlet. A net cover should be added in front of the inlet, and the water flow speed should be controlled.
